Our Parish Home: St. Mark's Episcopal Church
Our school is a primary ministry of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, where our aims are always to respect the dignity of every human being, regardless of faith tradition, race, creed, nationality or anything at all, and to provide an environment in which each child becomes more and more aware that they and their classmates are of infinite worth and truly beloved by God (and by us). Our chapel program focuses on these mandates.
Our two Pre-K classes take part in a pint-sized chapel program twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays at 11:30 am, led by Children’s Chaplain (and Yellow Room lead teacher), Mr. Richard Bruzzi. Throughout the year, they learn different bible stories, re-create stories through dramatic play, learn songs with signing and movement, and offer their own small prayers of thanksgiving. (Nothing is cuter than a young child giving thanks for pink shoes, or red trucks, or of course Mommy and Daddy.)
Chapel time in the Green Room (our three year old room) focuses on developing social skills through encouragement of friendships and respect for those around us, in the classroom, school, and community at large, using Bible stories for those contexts.
All classes say grace before snack and before lunch, offering thanksgiving for the food they are about to eat. Children are encouraged to lead the prayers, and all introductions to spirituality throughout the school are age-appropriate and affirming.
